How ’bout them Cowboys? asked:
The reason I ask this is because lately, I have heard alot of people say that you have to have the best set of clubs to be the best. Is this really true? Would a less expensive or used set get the job done?

No, just get a set that fits you well. I would spend money on lessons befor clubs.

No. Tiger Woods started out with an OLD broom!

No, they don’t have to be expensive.

Yes, absolutely.

Your swing is more of what its all about rather han expensive clubs. Yes new technology can help…but only if your swing is solid.

Marketing and Sales do a very good job of telling us we should play what the pros play and every week we get to see how well they play. Don’t you want to play as well as the pros do? Don’t you want to hit the ball as far as the pros do? Don’t you want to putt as well as the pros do? Don’t you want to look as good as the pros do? We all say yes but a very, and I mean very, small percentage of all golfers break ninety if they play by the rules. Go to a club maker, get fitted for a set of clubs that fit your stature, swing speed and talent. You will then have the clubs best suited for you. You’ll know when you’re ready to buy that $400 driver or that $350 putter.

No.I assume you are quite an advanced player, which means you don’t need the most expensive set, by any means, yet no Wal-Mart set either. Try going to specialty sports stores and asking around. The people there should help you out. A less expensive set should suit you well, and saving money should make you feel even better. Now, if you are very, very good, you may need the most expensive set. But only if you are very good. For a simple reason; you must work out all the kinks in your playing before you will be able to harness the potential of an expensive set of clubs. Only upgrade your gear to that level when you have upgraded your playing skill all you can. Otherwise, you are only paying for a brand name. This said, you get what you pay for. A high quality set will make a difference in your playing, albeit a small one. This small difference would be barely noticeable in the hands of an amateur, yet could give an expert player quite a competitive edge.
Note: Specialty clubs, such as putters and chippers, should always be hand selected because of the small room for error in these clubs. However, you may find that you find a less expensive club more comfortable that a high priced one. Quality and comfort, not price and brand name, will help your playing go a long way. Hope I helped!

Quality equipment helps in that the clubs are very well matched. That means that your 8i and 4i are going to have very similar stiffness in the shafts, similar quality in the construction of the club face and other issues. But, the best clubs in the world won’t help a bad golfer be great.
Good golf starts with practice. When you reach the point that your game is better than the clubs you play with, then you need to upgrade to better sets.
I’d be willing to bet that if I had Tiger Wood’s clubs and he had a Wal-mart set, that he’d still humiliate me in 18 holes.

For the last time. Its not the iron’s that make a player good it’s the player that makes the player. I see alot of older gentlemen using vintage irons and still do very very well with them. I mean you could buy expensive clubs and play like an idiot and get laughed at.

No you dont have to. Just take lessons and keep practicing.
But I do suggest that you do buy better clubs once you get more experienced and better at golf.

I love to see a guy with a beat up,mixed matched set of clubs clobber a guy with a bag full of shiny bling bling cost a lotta bucks clubs… and it happens A LOT!!

People will take you more seriously if you have better clubs but you don’t need better clubs. u just need to have a driver that is pretty thick, irons 2-9 (plus pitching and sand wedge), you can have a hybrid or a fairway driver its up to you, and have a putter.
there’s no really reason to have really expensive ones. i have 4 drivers but i don’t use 2, i have a 1,3,5, and 7 drivers. i only use the 1 for driving, and use the 7 for the fairway if I’m about maybe 200+ yards away.
just don’t buy a $300 or $400 set of clubs. all u need is a couple of drivers or 1. and irons and putter

nope. i bought my first used set for only $100 and ive played down to the mid 80s with them

I hate the answer people give for this question. The old cliche,”The clubs don’t make the player” is so misunderstood.
No, good clubs will not make you better. But poor quality or ill-fitted clubs will most certainly hurt your game. Yes, Tiger Woods could shoot a 69 with an old set of hickory shafted pieces of crap. But that same round, he would have shot a 59 with his own clubs.
Will good clubs make you go from shooting in the 90s to shooting in the 60s? Probably not. But if the clubs you are using are not right for you, you probably would drop 10 strokes off your game with fitted clubs.
So the correct answer is, no, good clubs will not make you better. But they’ll probably make you shoot better scores!
Golf clubs sales
YES —
Especially if you’re playing golf as a means of conducting business.
But if you suck, how can you be the best?
The more expensive sets are better made, better warranties and better customer supports, and can be custom made to your height and playing style. AND better engineered and designed and better materials.
The less expensive sets are great for novice players and for the weekend hacker but are usually made with cheaper materials and are a much more inferior product.
I’ll put money that a good player with a cheap set will beat a bad player with an expensive set.

No, its all marketing mumbo jumbo… they sell you good looking clubs saying theyre this and that… and ofcourse it does have a phychological effect on the golfer… they think… wow! im so confident that im guna hit so good that i will hit so good. it gives phychological boost to new golfers. but pros can use a modest set and still be as good as with the latest callaways.
Golf swing lessons
No, this is not necessarily true. It may help a minor bit but no there is no significant change or improvement to your game. There are always recommendations to what set of clubs you should get but in the end, it all comes down to PC (Personal Choice) Always remember, the big brands just want the pros to play with them to just have an advancement in sales. So answering your question, no it is not completely necessary it have such good clubs. Maybe try considering a club fitting, this usually makes a big difference to your game.
Golf swing lessons
You should eventually get clubs that are close to fitting you ie related to your height and how fast you swing the club. However, a decent used set is reasonable to start. To
begin 10 pin bowling do I need my own ball like Homer? The one thing I think is totally unnecessary is spending a ton of money on the ‘latest’ driver. Calloway also has a internet used club site and they are good clubs.

No, you should however have a set that fits your swing, regardless of how much you pay for them…is it really necessary to live in a big home, or to drive a nice luxury auto…or for that matter to have new shoes? It is all a matter of choice, Ive seen people who change clubs often…it doesnt change their swing…if you want to get better at it though you should make sure the clubs are fitted to your swing is about the most important thing…

You DONT need “expensive” clubs but good ones help. But then again I know a single handicapper with a set of old donnay’s. Price doesn’t matter. And a set of second hand clubs will benefit you the same and not empty your wallet. Some people find that big brand names do give confidence though.
golf swing analysis software
yes , but you’re not the best. so go ahead and buy your clubs at walmart.

Sarah…By no means all that is necessary is a love of the game a set of clubs and some lessons. Of course it would also help to have some athletic ability.
