Any parents have a child that plays golf (or if you play)?

My nearly 7 year old son has recently mentioned an interest in learning to play. There’s a driving range a few blocks away that offers a junior clinic and league so I will look into it if he wishes to pursue this interest. Despite the fact that I live in Florida where it’s an immensely popular sport, I know absolutely nothing about it. I don’t know where to purchase equipment, what the cost range is, what is actually needed and what is just a kind of luxury. I’m totally clueless! Is there somewhere that I can get more information without showing everyone how ignorant about it I am? Surely there’s a good website for the Golf Clueless?
